Spring comes to the Homestead!
We prepare the gardens, sharpen tools, clean the house, wash clothes and air the bedding.
Sheep will be sheared.
The fleece will be teased,
carded and spun into yarn.
The weaving and dying process will be explained.
The Reverend Macmillan will marry a young couple in the tradition of the frontier. A “shift” wedding will also be held for a widow who brings
nothing but herself to her marriage. Join in the frivolity.
Learn the importance of this event to our country. A short skit in which the first shots are fired will be performed at 2 and 3:00 p.m.
The process of turning the flax plant into linen cloth will be demonstrated.
Summer chores are highlighted.

Join the Millers as they relax with games and contests before the hard work of harvest begins. Try your hand at frontier games.
The 8th Pennsylvania Regiment will set up camp on the grounds and re-enact the day-to-day life of the Revolutionary War soldier.
Young soldiers will be recruited and drilled. Displays of rifles and weaponry.
Children can try their hands at various frontier crafts such as tin punching, corn crafts, games, butter churning. Tussie-mussies will be sold.
Bring your cameras for pictures of your children in frontier dress.
4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Enjoy the special atmosphere of the Homestead at dusk with candles and lanterns lighting your way. Hot cider and cookies will be sold.
A traditional meal for the Miller family will be prepared at the open hearth and bake oven; an 18th century frontier feast will be on display.
Celebrate the Scots Irish heritage of the Millers with highland dancing. Participation welcomed. A tea and traditional foods will be on display.
Music fills the Homestead as traditional carols will be performed throughout the site. The Miller house will be decorated for Christmas in
Western Pennsylvania frontier style.
